Prerequisite Sequence

Leslie in sim photoAll Aviation majors are required to complete the following prior to enrolling in any upper division business coursework:

  • ENGL 1113 and 1213
  • COMM 1113
  • Math 1743
  • All Basic Business Requirements
  • BAD 1001

NOTE: To remain on track for graduation, students must enroll in these courses every semester.

Degree Residency

Candidates for the Bachelor of Science in Aviation degree must meet degree residency in one of two ways.

  1. Complete the last 30 hours at OU in residence (no transfer or correspondence)
  2. Complete fifty-one of the last sixty hours at OU in residence

NOTE: It is highly recommended students consult their advisor prior to enrolling in any transfer coursework. Failure to meet degree residency can prevent a student from graduating.

Transfer Credits

  • Students may not use more than sixty-five hours of transfer work from a two-year college toward their degree completion
  • Credit from a two-year college will be accepted to meet lower division requirements only
  • A maximum of twelve credit hours of transfer work will apply in the major area

Advanced Standing Examination

Students who complete a pilot certificate or additional rating outside of OU may be eligible to earn college credit. Students who feel they are eligible should contact their advisor and the Chief Flight Instructor in the Aviation Department.

NOTE:

  • There is a limit to the number of credit hours that can be obtained through advanced standing
  • Students who have earned a grade, besides W, in a course are not eligible for advanced standing
  • Advanced standing credit in certain aviation courses may affect a student’s PART 141 status with the FAA; please consult the Chief Flight Instructor prior to taking the exam

Graduation

Prior to being cleared for graduation, aviation majors must:

  • Obtain a graduation check before enrolling in their last semester
  • Complete an exit interview form
  • Have a current graduation application on file in the Aviation Advising Office

Students who earn an OU and combined retention grade point average of at least a 3.50 may graduate with Distinction. Those students earning an OU and combined retention GPA of at least 3.75 may graduate with Special Distinction.

NOTE: No student who has been subject to disciplinary action will be granted a degree with Distinction or Special Distinction.
